A Very Old Memory
On October 4, 1974 I was in the hospital in Libertyville, Illinois as my son was about to be born. At the time I didn’t know it was my son, because we thought we were having a girl. We had already chosen the name Faith Elaine. When the doctor came out and asked me what his name was I said, “Faith Elaine”. He told me that I should pick out a boys’ name because he was a boy.
I kicked around the idea about naming him Samuel Jack Martin, III but after talking it over we went another way. I liked the name Paul because of the apostle Paul and so his first name was Paul and his middle name was after one of his uncle’s. His mother’s oldest brother was James and so his name became Paul James Martin.
Over the years we have had many incidents but Paul has turned out to be a fine young man. I guess I should say older man as he turns 44 today. I am proud of my son. I love him very much and he has done me proud.
So today I am wishing a very happy birthday to my son, Paul. May he have many more and I wish him good health and I hope he has a wonderful day today.
