Surprise Surprise

Surprise!!! Has anyone caught you off guard and surprised you?  I mean to the point you were  caught with you mouth open with surprise?  Sometimes that can be a good thing and other times it isn't.

I don't know about you but I don't like to be surprised.  I like to know what is going on before it happens.  Surprises are sometimes good but I just don't like them.  Why do you think that is?  My wife says I am a control freak when it comes to surprises.  I want to know what is going on because I can't control the event  and it makes me uncomfortable.

My problem with surprises is I don't want to be embarrassed and sometimes when I am caught by surprise I am embarrassed.  Like the Sunday I turned 40.  I came into the church on Sunday morning and the church looked like a Halloween party.  It was decorated in black.  I was totally embarrassed and it didn't give me a good feeling.  Everyone laughed and had a good time except me.  I was a bit depressed.

I enjoy getting gifts on my birthday and at Christmas but I am always afraid of being embarrassed and if I get something I really don't like I don't want anyone to know it but usually they do.  Kelly has a way of reading me and she knows when I don't like a gift.  I try to not to show it but I do.  Usually at Christmas she asks what I want and when I open it I act surprised but I am not but I got what I wanted.

What about you?  Do you ever have a situation that you don't like surprises?
