I Wish I Had Known You

I wish I had known you, they'll never know how much I care,

All the Christmases and Thanksgivings we could have shared.

I wish I had known you, so soon you said "goodbye",

Though I know it's kind of selfish it makes me want to cry.

I wish I had known you, you were my Father's Mom,

You couldn't stay to raise him, Mary, Dan, or Tom.

I wish I had known you, but it wasn't in God's plan,

For you to know and hold me or spank me when I'm bad.

I wish I had known you, and though I don't see you here,

At birthdays and graduation, I know that you were there.

I wish I had known you, how different I would be,

You are my inspiration, though you, I've never seen.

I wish I had known you, but I'm happy just to know,

Someday I'll get to meet you upon the streets of gold.

I wish I had known you, though it won't be very long,

This life is just a vapor, one moment here, then gone.

I wish I had known you, how happy you must be,

To sit at Jesus' table and with the Savior eat.

I wish I had known you, and perhaps at Heaven's gate,

You stand watching me grow up and for me to come you wait.
