What To Do When You Don't Know What To Do

David found himself in a cave hiding from King Saul and didn't know what to do. Psalm 142:1-4 King James Version (KJV) 1 I cried unto the Lord with my voice; with my voice unto the Lord did I make my supplication. 2 I poured out my complaint before him; I shewed before him my trouble. 3 When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, then thou knewest my path. In the way wherein I walked have they privily laid a snare for me. 4 I looked on my right hand, and beheld, but there was no man that would know me: refuge failed me; no man cared for my soul.

David was at a point in his life when he didn't know what to do. Have you ever been there? I would like to share with you several simple things you can do when you are at the point when you don't know what to do.

The very first thing you must do is consult the Lord in prayer. If you will take time to talk to God He can guide you in the direction you need to go. I am not sure why or how but many start their day without talking to God. This ought to be our first action when we wake up in the morning. If you are at a point in your life and you don't know what to do then consult the Lord in prayer.

The second thing which ought to be done almost at the same time is confessing any known sins in your life. We can't expect God to help us if we have sin in our life. Clear the air and open the channel of communication with God by confessing any known sin. Not only will it help your relationship with God but it will help to clear your mind so you can think clearly. Sin has a way of keeping us from thinking clearly.

The next thing you ought to do is channel your thoughts on good things. When your mind is filled with ungodly things it will keep you from living a life that is fruitful and happy. It will push you to the point you won't know what to do so if you channel your thoughts on good things it will help you to think more clearly and prepare you for the next step you need to take.

The next thing you must do is check your Bible for encouragement. The Bible is full of encouragement and reading it gives God an opportunity to talk to you. Allow Him to encourage you through His word. God uses His word to speak to us and if we don't read it we can't hear Him very clearly.

Next you need to claim God's promises as yours. His word is filled with promises and you need to claim them as yours. He promises to be with you and you must claim that promise. He tells us in Psalm 119:11, if we hid His word in our heart it helps us not to sin. How? Well when God's word is hid in our heart the Holy Spirit convicts and we can repent and receive forgiveness.

Next you need to commit to do God's will. Many times we are wanting to do what is right and best for ourselves but following God's will sometimes is hard for us. Commit yourself to do whatever God directs you to do. When we are willing to follow God's direction we will find that our life will move in the right direction.

Lastly, calmly wait for God's answer. We are always in a rush but God wants us to be willing to wait patiently. When you calmly wait the answer will come. So today if you are at the point in your life that you don't know what to do, do these simple things and it will help you to know what to do when you don't know what to do.

Isaiah 40:31King James Version (KJV)

31 But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
